Shema, O Isra’el… But Are We Really Listening?

Shalom dear family, and welcome to Va’et’chanan.

In this Torah portion, Moses calls Israel to remember the covenant and declares the words that have echoed through the generations:

“Shema, O Isra’el: Yehovah our Elohim, Yehovah is One.”

To shema is more than to hear—it is to listen with the intent to obey.

As we study this parashah, let us ask ourselves: Are we simply hearing the Word, or are we truly listening?
